If your antique rug needs repaired consider having a rug specialist that has a good reputation take a look at it. Two of the most common repairs are re-fringing and over-rounding the sides. To re-fringe a weaver will a part of the rug rather than adding fringe that is not of the same material that the rug is made out of. The weaver will take the threads out of the rug then repair it with a stitch. When the side of the rug needs repaired a weaver will over-round the side by hand.
