Last year after finishing our deck we placed some very simple wood post caps over the posts to protect it. Though we really didn’t like them that much, they did the job. However, we have spent much more time on the deck than we had ever expected so we decided to spruce it up a bit and invest in some deck finials. We found some wonderful choices and stuck with the wooden theme to add to the beauty of the deck.

While we were shopping we ran into some really great metal finials and decided to purchase these for the gate posts entrances on either side of our house. Once we got them all installed and looked at the yard, we were really pleased with our selection. Now we are looking to replace the cheap treated wood postcaps on our fence posts with some really good cedar or redwood caps to finish off the new look. What I like the most is we’ve been able to upgrade the look for very little money and in today’s economy, that’s a great thing!

Looking for a Different Type of Finial?

Last year I spent most of the summer helping my elderly parents get their home and yard cleaned up, repaired and ready to sell so they could move into an assisted living situation. And even though my mother knew she was going to leave her home of twenty-five years, she insisted that everything be as she would want it to be before putting the house on the market and one of those things was choosing new finials for the fence in the front and back of the house because she wanted “something different”. We looked until we found the Cobblestone Finial for the fence in the back but she wanted something more traditional for the front fence and entry way.

Though I thought the other one would be fine there she found the Coach Lamp Finial and insisted that one was it; and she was right. While most of the rest of the house was a breeze compared to the fight we had about these finials, it turned out looking really great and the house sold rather quickly considering the housing market at the time. When I go to see them they occasionally ask me to drive them by the old house and my mother loves telling the story about how she insisted on those finials and I have to smile…

I Love my Green House Kit

Several months ago I was doing some online research in regard to greenhouses because I was determined to purchase a small greenhouse and get started early on planting. I live just enough North that the growing season seems to come and go much too fast! I found some great deals and did something I bet many of you do; I didn’t write down the name of the website where I found the grow house that I wanted. Anyways, I was able to easily find the green house kit and ordered it that day. It arrived the next week and I had it up and ready to go all by myself in just a couple of hours and it has done exactly what I wanted it to do. I immediately planted seeds of my favorite veggies and had fresh vegetables three weeks before anyone else I know; it has been great! The little greenhouse has held up very well and I am thrilled that I will also be able to extend the growing season throughout the fall as well. I am now able to grow my own veggies in all but the deepest of winter.
